ABOUT THE THERAPIES
Aromatherapy uses the therapeutic properties of essential oils to assist the body's healing process. Essential oils work on both a physiological and psychological level. They are usually applied through body massage but can be used in many other ways.
Although Aromatherapy has its roots in antiquity, the technique that is used today stems from research which began during the early part of the 20th century. Since the 1970's the understanding and use of complementary and alternative medicines (CAMs) has increased tremendously. They are now available in a wide range of health care settings. Aromatherapy especially can have so many different uses both within clinical practice and in the home.
Aromatherapy can awaken and revitalize your sense of smell and touch. Body massage is an integral part of Aromatherapy treatment as the oils penetrate the deeper skin layers and diffuse into the blood capillaries and inter-cellular fluid. The healing power of essential oils can also be absorbed by the body through the process of inhalation.
Is based on the principle that there are reflex points on the hands and the feet which correspond to each organ and part of the body. By working on these reflex areas the therapist can treat imbalances and help to relieve tension or congestion.
